What is VMS?
Definition of VMS (variable message signs) in Construction
The term VMS is used to identify variable message signs on the highway or on a construction site. This signage is the changing signs that will identify road conditions, traffic volumes or changing roadway patterns. The VMS is a relatively new aspect to highway and construction signage. On the construction site, this type of signage is now being used to manage larger projects where there might be heavy concentrations of manpower, equipment, loading or unloading. On some high-rise projects the use of VMS will be used to coordinate the construction elevators or other safety issues on a project. The ability to change the message of a sign has tremendously advanced the enhancement of safety and control on the construction project as well as the final product. State and local highway departments will normally control the actual specifications of these VMS’s and their use is increasing.
