What is Xo / Ox?
Definition of Xo / Ox in Construction
The designation showing the operable sash and the non-operable sash, slider or door. The X designates the operable unit and the O the non operable. This designation is determined from the exterior of the structure. This designation is a very common means of identifying the functional or operational portion of glass and the stationary or non operational portion of the glass. This nomenclature is used on contract documents together with sophisticated order forms and shop drawings. It is important to understand that the X identifies the operable panel and the O the non operable panel. The designation does not identify the ability to make the non operable panel operational by either unlocking the panel or removing some simply located stops. This is not the intent of the designation, the designation is only intended to indicate at normal operational time the operation verses stationary panels.
