Tilt Up

What is a Tilt Up?

Definition: What Does the Term Tilt Up Mean?
The term tilt up refers to a method of concrete construction, whereby concrete panels are constructed in the field on the top of the slab on grade. A bond breaker is used to separate the actual panel and the slab. These panels are designed to be tilted up and placed on the perimeter footings by hoisting with jacks, cranes or other methods of lifting.

The use of tilt up is more commonly used in the warmer climates due to additional winter protection costs in the colder weather as well as reduced insulation requirements. The proper use of the tilt up method of construction affords an efficient and economical means of construction for larger structures that have open slabs on grade.
