What is a Tile

Definition of Tile in Construction

The term tile is used in the construction industry to refer to any type of material that is available and normally installed in a repetitive manner that is consistently the same size. Tile for example can be floor, ceiling, roof, wall, siding, exterior pavement, interior pavement, made up of almost any type of material, such as asphalt, fiberglass, masonry, synthetic material, plastic, vinyl, etc. Although most lay persons will identify the term tile with either floor tile or ceiling tile, the construction industry uses the term in many different ways and to identify many different products. The easiest way to describe the use of the term tile in the construction industry, is any process that requires the repetitive installation of very similar materials of consistent size and shape.
