Thresholds

What does Thresholds Mean?

Definition of Thresholds in Construction

The term thresholds in construction, normally refers to a door or opening threshold. In addition the term can mean a transition threshold of different floor elevations. If a kitchen has a tile floor that does not match the elevation of the adjacent dining room wood floor, then a threshold is required to transition between the two elevations. The threshold of a door is important in regards to the performance of the door. The threshold can be a sound threshold, a special fire rated threshold, a weather tight threshold, etc. The threshold of a door is an important element in the hardware package for that particular door. Threshold can also be used to identify the upper or lower limit of a requirement on a project. For example a minority threshold is the amount of minority representation required on a particular project to properly address the specific minority requirements of a project.
