What is a Surround?

Definition of Surround in Construction
Used to describe a decorative or architectural trim around a window or opening. The surround of any unit normally refers to all the trim pieces that make up the perimeter of that unit. The term surround is a universal term in construction and is intended to describe any type of surrounding material around almost any type of construction element. For example a fire place surround is the material that surrounds the opening in a fire place. A floor surround could mean the specialty wood or other flooring material that surrounds the perimeter of a room or other area of the structure. Surround describes exactly what it references, the surround of almost anything, and dependent upon the trade and the location of the project will dictate the specifics of the reference.
