Definition of Surface Mounted in Construction
Surface mounted in the construction industry is anything this is physically mounted on the top of a surface, whether it is a wall, ceiling, floor or some other type of surface. Surface mounted is opposite from recessed or embedded into the surface. A surface mounted application will normally have a mounting plate attached at the base, or the portion of the assembly that will be mounted to the top of the surface. Surface mounted applications make the removal and replacement of the item much simpler than any assembly that is either recessed or embedded. In many instances a surface mounted piece of equipment is bolted or screwed into the top of the surface that the item is being mounted to. Surface mounting is also accomplished with the various epoxy resin glues or other types of adhesives.
