Definition of Stop in Construction A trim piece of wood, vinyl, or aluminum that is installed in a door or window opening to limit the swing of a door or window. Normally a small narrow piece of wood, vinyl or aluminum. A stop is another general construction term and is used extensively throughout the industry. A stop is basically any type of obstruction that stops the swing, sliding, opening, pivoting, etc. of any construction element. The term wheel stop refers to the concrete or wood barricade in parking lots, that stops cars from over extending their parking stall. In some cases the term stop will be used to indicate a limiter or a mechanism that stops a valve from opening too far or a switch from moving too far. Basically, any element that stops a function can and will be called a stop in the construction industry.
