A special inspector on a project is an independent inspector that has been assigned to inspect specific aspects of the projects design.
This inspector can have the responsibility of a number of different engineering disciplines such as structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental, security, etc. A special inspector is usually required to ensure that all of the specific design requirements are maintained on a project. If the special inspector has concerns for a particular aspects of the construction, then this special inspector will present the concern to the proper engineer of record. SER ( structural engineer of record ) MER ( mechanical engineer of record ) EER ( electrical engineer of record ) or any other discipline that requires representation.
