What is a Sidelite?
Definition of Sidelite in Construction Stationary glass units that are installed alongside a door or window unit. The sidelite, in most cases is non operable and is used as an architectural or decorative feature, or as a means of providing additional illumination within the foyer or entry hall. Multiple sidelite are mulled together with door units to present a wider assembly to fill the entire hallway or opening to a formal room, such as a dining or living room. Any glazing that is applied to the side of a primary window or door can be identified as a sidelite. Care must be taken when using the term and discussing the application, that it is clear what is inferred by the identification of sidelite. In some instances the installation of a sidelite is merely to visually present a wider entry door to the viewer.
