What is Secondary Electric Service
Definition of Secondary Electric Service in Construction
The secondary electric service on a construction project is the electrical service after the primary power switchgear. The primary power is the power from the utility company, which is directly brought into the projects electrical room. Once the primary power is distributed to secondary panels, the electrical power is referenced as the secondary electrical service. The secondary is the power that is distributed by the lighting and power panels in the electric room to the remainder of the project. In most cases, the secondary power service is less voltage than the primary power, and is the electrical power that services the lights, switches, outlets and all of the normally used equipment and appliances located on the project.
