Definition of Riser in Construction
The term riser is used in the construction industry for any type of pipe, culvert, shaft, etc. that rises up in a vertical direction. A riser can be a waterline, sanitary line, air shaft, ventilation piping or shaft, catch basin vertical section, manhole vertical section, etc. Any item that rises up can be identified as a riser. Care must be taken to properly identify what is being meant by a riser in the construction industry. An architect may use riser, differently from an engineer who uses it differently from the contractors on the site. Riser is a universal term to identify any open conduit, shaft, tunnel, pipe, vent, etc. that rises up in the ground, within the building, rises up in a complicated mechanical assembly, etc.
