Definition: What Does the Term RFI Mean?
Request for Information (RFI) is a commonly used phrase that identifies the method of asking a question on a construction project. There are many different formats for an RFI, however, the intent is the same. If there is a question on the documents, specifications or other elements of a construction project, an RFI is issued that is used to track the question as well as the answer. In most instances an RFI log is maintained by the General Contractor and reviewed at the weekly job meeting.
