Priority Spec

What is Priority Spec?

Definition of Priority Spec in Construction
A specification can be written as a priority specification, meaning, it identifies a certain product, and will not accept any ” as equal ” manufacturers or products. Sales people work diligently to get architects and engineers to identify their product as a priority spec. Normally, a priority specification is not allowed on a publically funded project. Priority specs are commonly seen on private construction projects that do not fall under any formal, legal requirement, to equalize all bidding requirements. Manufacturers and suppliers will constantly submit ” as equal ” submittals that claim to be exactly or better than the priority specification.
