What is Jamb / Jack?

Definition of Jamb / Jack in Construction
Jamb / the sides of an opening, window, door, hatch, etc. One of the three elements of an opening, the sides. The top is referred to as the head, and the bottom, the sill. Jamb is used to reference several different scenarios in construction.

Jack / reference to jack studs, which are the studs on the sides of each wood framed opening that support the header over the opening. The window jamb, which are the sides of a window, normally framed also with jack studs that supports the window header. The jamb of a window can also be the finished trim that completes the sides of the window opening. The door jamb, which is the sides of the opening, as well as the jack studs which support the header over the door opening.
