What is an Inactive Panel Or Sash?
Definition of Inactive Panel Or Sash in Construction Any door or window panel, that is not the primary sliding or swinging panel. Inactive identifies an assembly that remains stationary during the normal function of the door or window unit. In many instances the inactive panel or sash can be made active if locking mechanisms are disengaged. The inactive sash or panel is normally identified by an O on the plans and the window and door schedule. An inactive panel, door or sash can be locked into position with foot and head bolts, which if disengaged can be made operable. In some design situations the inactive panel could be provided as an opaque panel to reduce the amount of visual access into a space.
