In-Swing

What is an In-Swing?

Definition of In-Swing in Construction
Window or door unit that swings inward, towards the interior of the structure. Normally exit doors installed on the perimeter of the structure will not be in-swing doors, but out – swing doors. Doors that are in-swing doors are usually interior doors leading to bedrooms, bathrooms or other rooms off of corridors or hallways. Most doors leading off of egress routes within a structure will not be allowed to swing into the egress path and will be designed as in-swing doors that swing into the individual rooms. Most swinging windows are out-swing and not in-swing windows. Normally a casement window that is hinged and allows the panel to swing, will swing to the exterior of the structure and not the interior.
