Flood Mitigation

What is Flood Mitigation ?

Definition of Flood Mitigation in Construction
The term is used to describe flood protection performed on a building to provide the proper protection to the established BFE ( base flood elevation ) plus the freeboard ( the additional height above the BFE that is protected ). Flood mitigation will allow the flood insurance rates to be reduced due to the flood mitigation performed on the structure. FEMA ( Federal Emergency Management Administration) will determine the adequacy of the flood mitigation by issuing a formal flood mitigation certificate indicating compliance.
