A flitch plate is a plate of steel that is normally sandwiched between two pieces of wood. The flitch plate adds structural support to the entire assembly and is a good method of enhancing the built up wood beams, headers or other built up wood assembly used for a structural component. The flitch plate is secured by bolts that pass through the entire structural system.
