Emergency Panel

What is Emergency Panel ?

Definition of Emergency Panel in Construction
The panel that houses only the emergency circuits that will be supplied with emergency power from the emergency generator.

If a construction project is designed to have full emergency power, such as a hospital, there will be no need for an emergency panel, only a transfer switch to switch the power form normal to emergency. However, if the emergency power is only going to be distributed to a specific number of circuits, then an emergency panel is required to identify these emergency circuits. The transfer switch will then only supply the emergency power to the emergency panel which will activate those life safety, or selected emergency circuits. This allows the selection of a smaller and less expensive and space intensive emergency generator.
