Emergency Door

What is an Emergency Door?

Definition of Emergency Door in Construction
An emergency door is a door that is located within an exit opening. Normally an emergency door is located at the end of a hallway or corridor and at a position to allow the exiting out of the structure. An emergency door will have an exit sign over the top of the door to indicate that the door is an emergency exit door. A set of panic hardware will be located on the emergency door to ensure that any panicked exiting crowds or individuals will simply have to lean on the panic bar to open the door and exit the structure. The specific location of all emergency doors is dictated by code and the allowable means of egress is identified within the contract documents.
