Electric metallic tubing . Designated as EMT which refers to a product, also referred as a type of conduit that is manufactured, as a protective light weight metal pipe, to use as a raceway for electric wiring.

The reference to conduit as well as EMT is many times used interchangeably. The use of EMT is normally an industrial or commercial application and is not used too much in the residential marketplace. If the ceiling space is considered a plenum system, then conduit and EMT is used extensively, to protect the wiring from a fire. EMT is usually hung and installed with unistruct and there are several manufactured connection products that are used to install and hang the EMT and or conduit.
