What is the Design Mix?
Definition of Design Mix in Construction
The design mix is the identification of the makeup of any concrete, mortar, grout, etc. that is a construction material that consists of various materials mixed together. The best example is a concrete design mix. This mix will be calculated to properly create a final product that is in accordance with the specifications for the project. The design mix will identify the strength, the permeability, the flow ability of the final product. The design mix for all items requiring a combination of materials to create the product on the jobsite, is submitted to the architect and engineers for approval, prior to its field use. The architect and engineer will review the design mix to ensure that it follows the requirements of the project specifications and will either reject, modify or accept the design mix. Until this action is completed by the architect or the engineer, the product should not be used on the jobsite.
