Culvert

What does Culvert Mean?

Definition of Culvert in Construction
Normally used when referring to a water course. A culvert is a large dropped channel of stone, concrete, or other material that channels water in a specific direction. The use of rip rap to line culverts is extremely common and the use of open culverts is particularly beneficial when the culverts are designed for flood control as well as controlling, larger unpredictable quantities of water. Large precast sections are sometimes constructed to create large culverts and are field assembled on the site. Culverts normally relate to larger conduits that provide major control of substantial water flow.
