Coping Cap

What does Coping Cap Mean?

Definition of Coping Cap in Construction
The top surface of a parapet wall, or other extended wall, above the primary roof or structure. The coping cap can be masonry, precast, aluminum, or other products that are durable and waterproof. In most cases the coping cap is pitched, to allow the water to drain off the coping cap, normally to the inside of the structure. This will allow the water to be accumulated and discharged through the roof drainage system, and not drain down the facade of the structure. Staining will occur if the water off the top of the coping cap is allowed to drain down the facade of the structure. Many restoration projects involve the replacement of the coping cap and will eliminate water infiltration into the exterior wall facade.
