This unit was established originally by the heat admitted by one candle one foot away. Although this was the original interpretation, over time, the engineering evolution of the BTU, has developed into the primary means of describing the energy conveyed by heating and cooling equipment. The BTU unit is used in the sizing of air conditioners, heaters, boilers, etc. The majority of mechanical units that have anything to do with heating and or cooling are measured by this energy unit.
