Bond Breaker

What is a Bond Breaker?

Definition: What Does the Term Bond Breaker Mean?
This is a term that is used to identify any type of material that is used to ensure that there is no bond created between materials. This could be used to identify a special fiber washer that separates two different metal fasteners, or a plastic fabric or sprayed sealant that is used to separate two concrete pours.

For example in tilt up construction when the panels are poured on the top of the slab on grade, a bond breaker is used to separate the two different pours. Any item that will prevent the bonding of two elements can be identified as a bond breaker.
