Bead Board

What does Bead Board Mean?

Definition of Bead Board in Construction
Term used to describe a finish surface material that has a profile of a level portion, which can vary in width, dependent upon the design requirements, alongside a beaded detail at specific intervals on the surface of the paneling or board. The use of bead board for porch ceilings, wainscoting applications and full wall surfaces is a common architectural design feature. Bead board depending on the design intent can be painted, stained, or left unfinished. Bead board is available in sheets or individual boards. The application of the board can be with adhesive or nailed. It is recommended that a backing of plywood be installed prior to the installation of the bead board to create a heavier more substantial looking presentation. The use of a chair rail cap is commonly used to cap the top of the bead board application.
