Definition: What Does the Term Bar Chart Mean?
A method of scheduling, that simply identifies all the different processes required to complete the project, as a list on the vertical axis of the schedule. On the horizontal axis of the schedule is a bar, that represents the length of time required to accomplish the task. This method of scheduling is basic, and does not provide the sophistication necessary to accurately identify all aspects of scheduling and procurement on a construction project. The bar chart is a simple representation of a project and is easily understood by all parties however has limits. In many instances on residential projects a simple bar chart is used, however on larger more involved commercial projects, more sophisticated methods for scheduling are usually utilized.
