What is an Admixture?

Definition: What Does the Term Admixture Mean?
Any ingredient used to change certain characteristics of a masonry product or adhesive. The use of admixtures in concrete can result in harder, denser and more durable concrete. In addition, admixtures are used to retard the setting up of concrete on a hot day and accelerate the setting of the concrete on a colder day. Admixtures are also used to increase the plasticity of a material, add to the workability of a product, enhance the adhesiveness of a product, etc. Admixtures are very common with mason mortar and increase the workability of the mortar as well as more evenly control the setting of the mortar setting beds.
